Becky, Chauncey, Tatymn and I would like to welcome you all to our 25th annual Charolais and Red Angus Bull Sale. My Grandfather Warren Hannah held sales in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and it seems like a lifetime ago since we had our first sale in Huron at Bales CCC. I am really pleased with the quality we have to offer this year and think they are as good a set as we have ever had. There is a ton of performance and eye appeal in this group of yearling bulls. We are also offering a select group of yearling commercial Red Angus and half-blood Charolais/Red Angus heifers that are going to go out and make top notch cows. I said it last year and I will say it again, we are at a time that we have never experienced before in the cattle industry. Record prices being offered for both feeder and slaughter cattle along with increasing demand for USA beef make it an exciting time to be in the cow business. A record low inventory in the US cow herd and low numbers of replacement females being retained mean that these prices will most likely be around for some time. Typical in South Dakota is the non typical weather and growing conditions from one year to the next. All in all we experienced a pretty good growing season with plentiful grass and adequate water. June was excessively wet but by the August the grass had hardened up and the calves really started to pop. The bulls were weaned on October 17 and as always, they were developed on a high roughage ration that focusses on rumen development and soundness of feet and legs. Pounds pay, and the easiest way to get pounds for nothing is heterosis. Charolais cattle have as much to offer in this category as any breed out there. Breed identity is becoming more of a thing and when order buyers a looking at silver and buckskin colored calves, they know they are looking at Charolais. I have really started to notice the Charolais cross feeder calves bringing a premium at the sales this winter. Red Angus feeder cattle have been topping sales all over the country and more than ever, the Red Angus females are in high demand. In this set of bulls you are going to find a set of heifer safe bulls along with some power bulls that will work excellent on a group of red or crossbred cows. Again this year we are going to have our sale in Carthage SD at the community center on Main Street. I felt that this was a lot easier on the bulls and more comfortable for the buyers. The sale will be a video format and will be broadcast on DVAuction. Videos and our catalog will be posted on the DVAuction website or go to www. driscollcattlecompany.com. Come look at the bulls any time at our place. The weekend prior to the sale and the morning of the sale, we will have the bulls penned in smaller groups to make it easier to view them. Feel free to call me any time to discuss the bulls or stop by and take a look at the offering. We hope to see you all on Monday, March 24th in Carthage SD. Thank you very much for your interest!
